Wandsworth Oasis streamlines charity shop operations with Transpeye
The customer Wandsworth Oasis is a south London HIV charity that has operated since 1989, running nine shops to fund its work and challenge the stigma faced by people living with HIV. Like all charity retailers, it depends on consistent point-of-sale controls to protect both its income and the Gift Aid revenue that makes donated stock go further. The challenge Charity retailing is unpredictable by nature. The supply chain is donation-led rather than ordered, which makes inventory and stock management difficult, and a largely volunteer workforce turns over more often than a typical store team. Together these make it hard to establish and hold consistent controls at the till — and hard to tell apart genuine mistakes from malicious activity. Wandsworth Oasis needed to protect Gift Aid revenue and surface both malicious and non-malicious losses without adding burden to its volunteers. The solution Lodge Service, the UK's longest-standing family-owned security company, recommended the Transpeye Platform as part of the charity's improvement programme. The deployment combined two strands of work:A CCTV migration. All sites were upgraded to Hikvision cameras and moved onto the Hik-ProConnect platform, then fully integrated with Transpeye via cloud-to-cloud technology — no local DVR or NVR software to install or maintain at each shop. Policy-based exception reporting. The A-EYE™ engine was configured with policies around refunds, voids, discounts and Gift Aid transactions, matching EPOS data to video so that exceptional risk is flagged in near real time and verified visually. The result is a single Unified Risk View across all nine shops, with each flagged transaction linked to its CCTV evidence. The results"In a short period of time we have seen great results." — Iain Burnett, Head of Retail, Wandsworth OasisThe platform quickly identified multiple malicious and non-malicious losses that required intervention, delivered immediate return on investment, and improved deterrence against both internal and external loss while strengthening overall asset protection. Hobbycraft cuts onsite investigations with cloud-to-cloud video
The customer Hobbycraft is a UK arts and crafts retailer with an estate of more than 100 stores. Its loss prevention team needed to review CCTV alongside transaction data across every site — without the cost and overhead of deploying and maintaining local software at each store. The challenge Reviewing risk across a large estate usually means someone travelling to site, or local recording software at every location that has to be installed, patched and kept running. Both are expensive and slow. Hobbycraft wanted its team to investigate risk remotely and on demand, from one place, across all of its stores. The solution The Transpeye Platform was integrated with Hikvision's cloud-based Hik-ProConnect API, enabling cloud-to-cloud video retrieval with no local DVR or NVR software required at each store. The A-EYE™ engine automatically links CCTV footage to risky transactions — refunds, voids and discounts — and to security events such as intrusions, EAS alerts and shelf monitoring, so investigators move straight from a signal to the moment on video. The technology stack:Transpeye Platform business intelligence and A-EYE™ exception reporting Hikvision CCTV across the estate Hik-ProConnect API for cloud-to-cloud retrieval Hik-Connect viewing appThe resultsOnsite investigations reduced by 25% in the first six months Higher investigation success rates through faster transaction review A significant reduction in training and compliance issues affecting inventory Real-time, on-demand remote review across the whole estate"This set up with remote review is now real-time, on demand, and the ability to drill into any behavioural event is used for a huge range of purposes." — Scott Upsall, Head of Loss Prevention, Hobbycraft"For any retail loss prevention and security team to be able to review risks from invested devices in one cloud-based system is incredibly powerful." — Karl Jordan, Managing Director, Transpeye
